  • Nauru Entrepreneurship Development Programme

    The objective of the Nauru Entrepreneurship Development Programme was to build and strengthen the entrepreneurial capacity of Nauruans to confidently engage in individual enterprises that will provide a sustainable livelihood to those who are currently unemployed or underemployed. Particular focus was given to empowering women and young people to engage in work and self-employment.

  • Enhancing livelihood recovery through food security in the aftermath of natural disasters in Fiji

    The agriculture sector was hard hit by the floods in January and March 2012, and tropical Cyclone Evan in December. Significant social impact of the natural disasters was borne by the population at large – particularly those whose livelihood depends heavily on subsistence or semi-subsistence agriculture and sale of produce.

  • Post-Cyclone Livelihoods Recovery and Cash-for-Work

    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) supported Post-Cyclone and Cash-for-Work project provided a temporary source of cash income in exchange for work related to debris clean-up, restoration of livelihoods activities and improving preparedness for future cyclones.

  • Waste Management and Livelihoods Recovery Initiative in Vanuatu

    On 13 March 2015, Category 5 Tropical Cyclone Pam wreaked havoc over Vanuatu affecting about 188,000 people and left 11 dead out of an estimated total population of 272,000 on 23 islands. On March 15, Vanuatu's President appealed for international support to respond the nation’s “unprecedented damages”.
