Partnerships form an important pillar of success for UNDP’s work in the Pacific region. UNDP Pacific Office in Fiji actively promotes a range of development partnerships with all stakeholders, both national and international, working together in all phases of the development cycle, from programme design, through implementation, review and revision, to impact assessment and the formulation of new interventions.

Pacific Island Governments
Working in 10 countries (Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu) and providing regional support in 5 countries (Cook Islands, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tokelau) the Pacific Office in Fiji liaises with various government departments in the region. Projects are either nationally implemented by government partners with direct support services provided by UNDP, or directly implemented depending on availability of capacities to effectively deliver activities. The decision to use either delivery modality is documented and agreed to in the signed project document.

Civil Society Organizations/Non-Government Organizations
The Pacific Office in Fiji collaborates with civil society organizations (CSOs) in the projects implementation and/or policy dialogue processes. Past experiences showed that non-government organisations (NGOs) are well suited for projects which call for expertise in the use of participatory methods and their grassroots connections ensures close interaction with the targeted and the vulnerable groups. UNDP, recognizing the comparative advantages CSOs possess, collaborates with them to achieve development objectives in the Pacific Island countries.
