The Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP) 2008-2012 has been signed by the Government of Kiribati and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The action plan looks at responding to emerging and existing development priorities for Kiribati.

UNDP in this instance assists by way of strategic interventions in the areas of Poverty Reduction and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Good Governance and Human Rights and Environment and Sustainable Management as identified during a consultative process involving Government and other national stakeholders during 2007.

And UNDP will also provide support through development projects, technical and advisory assistance, training workshops and in general, ensuring that national policies are effective in meeting the basic needs of the people of Kiribati.

Further to this, the implementation of development assistance will be overseen by a Programme Board, comprised of the Kiribati Government’s Donor Coordinating Committee and UNDP, as well as other national stakeholders and development partners.

UNDP’s Country Action Plan in Kiribati has been developed in close coordination with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and other UN entities, to ensure a combined effort in delivering development assistance of the UN system as a whole.
