Nuku’alofa, Tonga - A Capacity Enhancement and Talanoa Workshop was organized for Parliamentarians of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga on Wednesday 16 July.

Speaker of Parliament, Honourable Tu’ilakepa who opened the three day (16-18 July) workshop said this is a forum for members to share ideas to enhance their legislative, representative and oversight roles.

He encouraged members to share their views on how to enhance the work of Parliament in future.

The workshop is facilitated by Tongan local, and Pacific Expert in dialogue processes, Dr Sitiveni Halapua of the East West-Center’s Pacific Islands Development Program with local Co-facilitators  Mr Aisea Taumoepeau (former Attorney General); and Mr Masao Passi (former MP and retired magistrate).

The workshop which is a partnership with the East West Centre’s Pacific Islands Development Program (PIDP) is a component of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Good Governance and Human Rights programme for Tonga under its Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP) 2008-2012. Tonga’s CPAP was signed by Government on 2 July, 2008.
